Are You Ready for Some Football?
It’s not all that often politics and sports collide. But, sports have been making a lot of political headlines lately.
Did you catch President Obama’s $2 million trip to Copenhagen to lobby for his hometown’s Olympic bid?
Do you remember Senator Arlen Specter’s dogged pursuit of the New England Patriots?
Yesterday Congressman John Conyers announced he’ll be launching an investigation into head injuries among NFL players. The AP reports that “the hearings will look at the lasting impact of head injuries, how to limit them, and how to compensate players and their families.”
Conyers is holding hearings because University of Michigan researchers released a study, which has not been subject to peer review, suggesting that retired professional football players have an increased rate of Alzheimer’s disease.
Back in March Conyers was calling for a different sort of hearings. After Heather Heidelbaugh, RNLA First Vice President, testified before the U.S. House Committee on the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties regarding ACORN, its corrupt and criminal practices, and her experience having sued ACORN in Pennsylvania Congressman Conyers called for an investigation of ACORN.
Unfortunately Congressman Conyers call for hearings was squashed by the “powers that be”.
Congressman Nadler resisted Conyers calls for hearings. Nadler said he’d hold hearings on ACORN if he heard any “credible allegations”.
On Sundays I watch football, every few years I get to watch the Olympics, is it too much to ask to turn on C-SPAN during the week and watch some hearings on ACORN?
Widespread voter registration fraud, tax evasion, videotapes showing ACORN employees providing advice on how to establish brothels and international prostitution rings, over 70 convictions in 12 states. How many more “credible allegations” do we need?
