Rep. Biggert (R-IL) Introduces ACORN Defunding Legislation

Politico is reporting that Rep. Judy Biggert (R-IL) "introduced legislation Thursday to strip the community-organizing group of its certification to qualify for federal housing dollars."

The legislation would suspend ACORN's Housing and Urban Development Department certification as an approved housing counseling agency, a status that allows ACORN to qualify for federal housing grants and helps them raise money from other sources.

And if there was any doubt about how the GOP feels about ACORN, look no futher than the name of Biggert's bill — the Suspend ACORN Certification Act, which she has shortened to the "SAC" Act.

You can find more on H.R. 3828 by clicking here, although as of this morning the text of the bill was not available. I wonder what the odds are of Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), perhaps ACORN's number one apologist in Congress, taking to the floor to declare that this is another Bill of Attainder? Either way, the GOP members of Congress continue to keep the heat on ACORN while investigators in the states (see: Louisiana and California) step up their efforts to investigate the organization.
