More Fallout from Election Assistance Commission Incident

Published Fri, Dec 4 2009 11:19 AM

The bad news continues for the Election Assistance Commissioners involved in the rejection of the applicant for the General Counsel position because he was a Republican. Republican members of Congress from the Committee on House Administration (the committee with oversight of the EAC and other federal election law matters) have called on the commissioner involved in the rejection of the Republican attorney to step down. Ranking Member Lungren (R-CA), Rep. McCarthy (R-CA) and Rep. Harper (R-MS) have all called on Commissioner Gracia Hillman to step down in light of the revelations that she, along with another Commissioner no longer with the Commission, Rosemary Rodriguez, orchestrated the rejection of the applicant solely for reason of his political affiliation.

As Hans von Spakovsky notes at National Review, the worst part about this entire situation is the fact that taxpayers are on the hook for the "big bucks" (rightly) owed to the Republican attorney.
