The week before, on April 27, Shelby County, Ala. v. Holder, was filed in the District Court... Read More...

Big Money Friday – Over 100 Million Dollars
30 Apr 2010 4:09 PM
It’s been a while since I’ve written an installment of Big Money Friday. Today there are two huge settlements coming out of the Department of Justice to bring to your attention. As reported in the Department of Justice’s favorable press releases -- though with an $81 million and a $22 million settlement, it’s tough not to be favorable... Read More...
Interesting News on the ACORN Lawsuit
9 Dec 2009 7:43 AM
Last week ACORN and the Department of Justice had their day in court. I posted the following recap on www.biggovernment.com : ACORN's pending litigation against the federal government has received less attention. Last week, unbeknownst to all but avid court or ACORN watchers a pivotal moment occurred in the lawsuit. Peter D. Leary, an attorney at the Department... Read More...
Enron – 8 Years Later, Still In Court
3 Dec 2009 1:35 PM
I've written before on my fascination with the Enron case. This year has seen a flurry of legal activity, including multiple appeals to the Supreme Court. Shareholders are still battling in court to recoup their losses. Some were handed a major blow today as a federal judge dismissed their claims against the banks that allegedly aided Enron in perpetrating... Read More...

I Thought Yoga Was Supposed To Be Relaxing
2 Dec 2009 8:30 AM
It's a clever argument for a constitutional right to teach yoga. Last year Virginia began requiring yoga teacher training programs to be certified as vocational classes. Many yogis consider this an infringement on their ability to practice and pass on their craft. Some seasoned yogis have filed suit claiming that "teaching, after all, is speech"... Read More...
ACORN v. USA – They Are Suing the Government
12 Nov 2009 11:09 AM
Our friends at ACORN are at it again. Rather than accept the fact that an organization engaging in fraudulent and criminal activity should not have access to your tax dollars, they've decided to file a lawsuit against the United States. Specifically they've named HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan, OMB Director Peter Orszag, and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner... Read More...
Big Money Friday – Boston Scientific to Pay DOJ $296 Million
6 Nov 2009 2:53 PM
It's always the cover-up that gets you in trouble. If Guidant would have just revealed the problems with its implantable defibrillators we wouldn't be seeing this story. Guidant failed to properly notify the FDA of the problem, DOJ mounted an investigation, and now the quarterly profits for Boston Scientific reflect a net loss of $94 million rather than... Big Money Friday – Spam King to Pay $711 Million
30 Oct 2009 12:56 PM
I get a lot of spam. Luckily my email program filters it for me. It seems everyday there's some new internet impresario out there looking to fill our inboxes with useless and often malicious messages. Today one of these spammers has been put in his place. In a California District Court Sanford "Spamford" Wallace was ordered to pay $711 million in... Read More...
