This summer was very busy both for the RNLA and the Trump Administration, and the hectic pace has continued this fall. The RNLA is hosting election law trainings and helping ensure state and local elections are open, fair, and honest this November, and we are already planning for election law trainings and Election Day operations programs in cooperation with leaders in many key states, looking ahead to the mid-term elections in 2018.

The Trump Administration, and particularly the White House Counsel’s office headed by 2017 Ed Meese Award winner Don McGahn, has demonstrated its commitment to restoring the rule of law through the nomination of excellent, well-qualified attorneys to the federal judiciary. As Rich Kisielowski details in his article "Trump Continues to Nominate Great Judicial Picks," the Democrats continue attacking, delaying, and obstructing these superb nominees. President Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell reiterated their commitment to seeing exceptional jurists seated on our nation’s courts just last Monday, and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley has worked to forward the nominations despite delays at every turn from the Democrats.

As RNLA members are well aware, judges have an immense ability to affect the present and future of our country. They interpret the laws passed by Congress, regulations implemented by agencies, and many other important rules, procedures, and documents. It is vital that judges not only be talented lawyers but also that they have a deep understanding of and respect for the Constitution, the separation of powers, federalism, and the rule of law. If you would like to assist with RNLA’s efforts to support President Trump’s judicial nominees, please email Rich Kisielowski at info@republicanlawyer.net.

On Wednesday, October 25, the RNLA will present the 2017 Republican Lawyer of the Year Award to Larry Levy during a reception at the City Club of Washington, D.C. In addition to being a personal friend to many in the RNLA (including myself) and a dedicated friend of the organization, Larry has served the Republican Party with distinction. He was actively involved in the 2016 Election both personally and professionally, and he has served in multiple positions in New York City. Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani will attend, along with a number of prominent Republican and conservative leaders whose names cannot be released at this time. It will be an honor to celebrate with Larry next week, and tickets are still available here.

On August 4-5, the RNLA hosted its annual National Election Law Seminar in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This year’s conference was attended by over 150 attorneys and featured keynote addresses by RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and Rep. Bill Huizenga. Panel topics included the federal regulation of elections, the 2016 Election, voter registration issues, election security, Presidential election commissions, legal ethics in the digital age, and politicization of the FEC. On Friday evening, the RNLA presented the first RNLA Chair Award to Manny Iglesias during a reception at the Gerald R. Ford Museum. Pictures from the conference are available here.

RNLA leaders now write an opinion column in the Daily Caller every Thursday. Recently, RNLA Vice President for Election Education David Warrington wrote “FEC Commissioner Uses Russian Meddling As Excuse To Restrict Internet Speech” and “Personal Attacks Are All Liberals Have Against Trump Nominees,” RNLA Co-Chair John Ryder wrote “Gerrymandering Is An Issue For Elected Officials, Not The Supreme Court,” and RNLA Executive Director Michael Thielen wrote “Is Facebook Using Foreign Influence As An Excuse To Censor Conservatives?”, “Why Are College Students’ Votes Worth More Than Everyone Else’s?” and "Respect For Free Speech Dwindles Under The Left’s Assault".
