David J. Porter is a shareholder with Buchanan Ingersoll's Litigation Group. David has represented individuals and corporations in the fields of banking, civil rights, commercial disputes and unfair competition, copyright, derivative and shareholder disputes, executive severance disputes, First Amendment and media law, labor and employment agreements, personal injury, product liability, RICO, trade secrets and restrictive covenants.
David is a member of the Civil Litigation Council of the Allegheny County Bar Association. He is President of the Pittsburgh chapter of the Federalist Society for Law & Public Policy Studies. He is also a Barrister in the Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Inns of Court.
Before joining Buchanan Ingersoll, David served as a law clerk to the Honorable D. Brooks Smith, currently of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
David has published numerous articles, white papers and books, including Guarding the Crown Jewels: A Handbook for Protecting Trade Secrets and Proprietary Rights (Washington Legal Foundation, 2002).
David served on the editorial board of the George Mason University Law Review. He holds a B.A. degree, with honors, from Grove City College.
